OUR CHURCH HISTORY
OUR CHURCH HISTORY
On March 31, 1983, a group of ten men, representing a larger group, met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ayer. At that time a decision was made to proceed with the formation of a new, Bible believing Baptist Church in Sackville. They also, at that time, extended a call to Pastor Rockwell to become their first Pastor. On May 2 of that same year, Pastor Rockwell accepted.
Since that time, the congregation has met in the Central School on Allison Ave. That first year saw acceptance of our Constitution and By-Laws, appointing of some officers and Incorporation. Some folks have been saved, had grown in their faith and the hand of God was seen in many ways. God supplied in remarkable ways through finances and equipment for ministry.
After two years of meeting at the school, Salem turned its first sod at the site of the new building (May 5, 1985) and eight months later the new building was dedicated to the Lord. The dedication service was well attended even though it was in a snow storm. We praise God for all who were involved in the construction of this building.
We now have a fine building to use for the glory of God. Our task of winning and training people for God is greater then ever.
We have had some wonderful Pastors over the years and continue to pray for them and thank God for their ministry with us at Salem.
